Blog 2 | My First Game - MAX PAYNE!
Hi Folks,
I am back, and this time, I’ll be talking about my first gaming experience and what this game means to me. Hope you guys enjoy it and relate to it!
The Beginning of My Gaming Journey
It was winter, and I was in 8th grade. As a kid, I had always been keen on playing video games. Since I got my own PC at a very young age, I loved exploring the desktop—drawing, creating stuff, and making a mess! But one thing always intrigued me: how did people download games?
I wanted to learn, but my friends spent more time flexing about their gaming skills rather than explaining the download process. Then, one day, I got to know about a guy—let’s just call him the ‘lord of all illegal activities.’ He turned out to be my classmate and, coincidentally, my bench partner. Our bond grew stronger when we started copying during exams, hiding notebooks in our backpacks. Of course, as backbenchers, we had to be skilled in all sorts of reckless activities, and we were definitely A1 at it.
Little did I know, he ran a ‘cartel’—not of drugs, but of supplying games. Jackpot!
The Deal of a Lifetime
I asked him for a game I could play on my desktop. He understood the assignment and charged me ₹38. Yes, 38 Indian Rupees. And in return, he handed me the game of my life—MAX PAYNE, on a DVD.
I hid the DVD under my sweater, ensuring I wouldn't get caught. With a lot of precaution, I finally brought it home. But fate had other plans—my desktop refused to start due to technical issues. DAMN LUCK! Regretting my purchase, I was left feeling utterly disappointed.
A Stroke of Luck
Just when I thought all hope was lost, my family planned a visit to a friend’s house in a nearby town. Coincidentally, my elder sister had a computer there. WHAT A JOY!
I took the DVD with me, and as soon as we reached, my mission was clear: Install MAX PAYNE and play!
And I did. The moment the game started, my mind was overwhelmed with joy.
The First Playthrough
The game began:
A helicopter flying in the dark, a chilling winter night, and then the handsome hero—MAX PAYNE—standing on a rooftop, gun in hand. The dialogue:
"They were all dead. The final gunshot was an exclamation mark to everything that had led to this moment."
WOOOOO! Even now, that scene sends shivers down my spine!
The game had everything—a gripping story, the sadness of a detective, the thirst for vengeance, and the iconic New York Police Department sirens. And let’s not forget the slow-motion bullet-time mechanics that made every gunfight feel legendary.
The music, the noir-style storytelling, the atmosphere—it was EPIC. I played from midnight till 8 AM non-stop, only to be forced to shut down due to my mom’s scolding. From that day, MAX PAYNE became an unforgettable experience.
Sadly, I couldn’t complete it at that time due to exams and travel. But a year later, I finally finished it and moved on to its sequel—MAX PAYNE 2: THE FALL OF MAX PAYNE (Oh, MONA SAX, BASEBALL BAT!).
And yes, my ‘supplier’ provided me with that one too. By then, I had become a great ‘dealer’ myself. Cool AF!
The Later Years
Fast forward eight years, and I finally played MAX PAYNE 3. Unfortunately, I didn’t like it as much as the first two. What truly set the original games apart was their storyline and dialogues, something I feel modern games often lack.
If I ever got the chance to remaster any games, MAX PAYNE 1 & 2 would be my top picks!
Final Thoughts
This was my experience with MAX PAYNE, a game I still hold close to my heart. If you’ve played it, you know what I mean. If not, I highly recommend giving it a try!
Hope you guys enjoyed reading this. Let me know if there’s anything else you’d like me to write about.
Happy Gaming! 🎮
